50 Years of Aachener Grundvermögen – 50 Years Values Create Value
On 12 March 1973, the Aachener Grundvermögen capital investment company was founded by the adoption of its articles of association.
These were signed by Paul Kottendorf, managing director of Aachener Allgemeinen Baubetreuungsgesellschaft mbH, and Dr Heinrich Vigano, member of the supervisory board of Aachener Gemeinnützige Siedlungs- und Wohnungsgesellschaft mbH (AGSWG), which, in 1990, was renamed Aachener Siedlungs- und Wohnungsgesellschaft mbH.
The first managing directors were Fritz Lill and Dr Jürgen Baur. Dr Jürgen Baur, who sadly died in December 2022, remained managing director up to 2007: from its very beginnings, he directed the company’s focus of investment towards secure, long-term inner-city retail properties.
What was once a four-person team has now grown to around 160 employees.
The converted four-room flat at Gilbachstraße 23-25, in which operations got up and running on 1 January 1974, was soon swapped for an office of the company’s own at Oppenheimstraße 9, with additional space rented in the neighbouring building.
The first investment for the Aachener Grund-Fonds in a commercial building at Hahnenstraße 16a in Cologne has since grown into a portfolio of over 300 inner-city properties in 1a retail locations and over 80 urban residential buildings, care homes and other properties in the WohnenPlus concept.
The initial fund, reserved for Catholic institutions, has now spawned 18 others for institutional investors. The fundamental prerequisite for development at the Aachener Grundvermögen has always been, and remains, the trust of our investors.
